The European Cup among junior judokas has started in Riga.
According to İdman.biz, the Azerbaijan national team, represented only in the boys' competition, competed in the 50, 55, 60 and 66 kg weight categories on the first day of the competition.
Rustam Gasimzade and Bahadir Feyzullayev, out of 9 of Azerbaijani judokas in 50 kg, defeated all their opponents and competed against each other in the final. Feyzullayev won the decisive match and won the gold medal. Rustam finished the race with a silver medal.
2 athletes competed in 55 kg. Nihat Mamishov lost to Samir Balayev representing Finland in the 1/4 finals and took part in the consolation matches. In the match for the bronze medal, Nihat's opponent was his teammate Telman Abdullayev, who lost to Vojciech Michalak (Poland) in the semi-finals. Nihat defeated Telman and won the bronze medal.
In 60 kg, Ahmad Rustamov and Mirkhalig Iskenderov took to the mat. The first of them lost in the first round. Mirkhalig defeated all his rivals and rose to the top of the podium.
All 3 of the athletes who participated in the competition in 66 kg finished the competition with a medal. Umud Gurbanov won every match and won the 3rd gold medal for Azerbaijan. Salim Sultanov and Said Sharifov won the bronze medal.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan is represented in the competition by 16 judokas in 7 weight categories.
