In the Champions League third qualifying round, Qarabag delighted their fans with a crushing victory over Shkendija. But another noteworthy moment from the match was the debut of 18-year-old Hikmat Jabrayilzada in such a prestigious tournament.
Sportal.az sought the opinion of U-21 national team head coach Aykhan Abbasov regarding the youngster’s debut, Idman.biz reports.
The experienced coach noted that other Qarabag talents developed in the same way: “Elvin, Toral, Nariman, Musa, even Mahir Emreli started like this. They all grew up experiencing the atmosphere of European competitions. For Hikmat Jabrayilzada to make his Champions League debut at this age is a huge success for him. I’m very happy.”
He added: “Hikmat took part in Qarabag’s summer training camp with the first team. The fact that he got minutes in the Champions League means he impressed Gurban Gurbanov during the camp. Jabrayilzada is also on our radar. We will be following him in Premier League matches as well.”
