The Portland Timbers announced Wednesday the signing of Norwegian international Kristoffer Velde from Greek Super League 1 side Olympiacos FC.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that the 25-year-old forward joins Portland for a reported $5 million fee and will occupy a Designated Player spot on the roster. Velde replaces Uruguay international Jonathan Rodriguez, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in July.
Under contract through 2028 with an option for 2029, Velde brings a dynamic attacking presence to a Timbers offense led by All-Star midfielder David Da Costa and 23-year-old winger Antony. Velde scored six goals and contributed two assists in 34 appearances during the 2024-25 season, helping Olympiacos win the Greek Super League and Greek Cup.
Previously, he spent three seasons at Lech Poznan in Poland, scoring 29 goals and 13 assists in 98 matches and winning the 2021-22 Ekstraklasa title. Timbers GM Ned Grabavoy and head coach Phil Neville praised Velde’s aggressive mindset, creativity, and potential impact on the team’s attack.
