Paris Saint-Germain are celebrating a historic moment after defeating Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in club history.
Adding to the excitement, PSG’s star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has offered an encouraging update on his future at the club, Idman.biz reports, citing Fabrizio Romano.
Donnarumma has been instrumental in PSG’s remarkable Champions League campaign this season. From his decisive saves in the penalty shootout against Liverpool to his outstanding performance in the semifinals against Arsenal, the Italian goalkeeper has been a cornerstone of the Parisians’ European success.
In a post-match interview, Donnarumma expressed his happiness at PSG and hinted at a potential contract extension.
“I’m under contract for one more year… it’s up to the club. If PSG want me to stay, I’m gonna stay,” Donnarumma told the media. “We just have to sign the new contract, but it’s up to the club.”
The 26-year-old arrived at PSG from AC Milan on a free transfer in July 2021. While he has collected several domestic trophies with the French giants, a Champions League title has so far eluded him—until now. With his vast experience on big stages, including major international finals, Donnarumma is eager to help PSG lift their first-ever European crown.
This season’s success has come amid a period of transition for PSG, notably following Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Real Madrid last summer. Reflecting on how the team has evolved in Mbappé’s absence, Donnarumma spoke to Prime Video after the semifinal victory.
“The spirit has changed; we are much more of a team. We play for each other,” he said. “We miss Kylian, he is one of the best in the world, and I wish him all the best because he is a great friend. The team is very united; we’re doing well together. We [Italy] won a European Championship like this, it makes all the difference in every team.”
Donnarumma’s heroics have not gone unnoticed. With a Champions League save rate of over 70%, five clean sheets, and an average of just one goal conceded per game this season, the Italian has emerged as a frontrunner in early Ballon d’Or 2025 conversations. His exceptional display against Arsenal further cemented his reputation as one of the best in the world when the stakes are highest.
As PSG gear up for their historic final, all eyes will be on Donnarumma—both for his on-field brilliance and his future with the club.
