The Azerbaijan national football team will play its third match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round today.
As Idman.Biz reports, Aykhan Abbasov’s squad will face France at the “Parc des Princes” Stadium in Paris. The match will kick off at 22:45 Baku time.
In the first two rounds, France defeated Ukraine 2–0 away and Iceland 2–1 at home. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, lost 0–5 to Iceland on the road and later drew 1–1 with Ukraine in Baku.
France and Azerbaijan have met twice before. During the period when Azerbaijan played its home matches in Trabzon, Turkiye, the team lost 0–2 to France on December 13, 1994, and 0–10 in the return match held on September 6, 1995, at the “Abbe Deschamps” Stadium in Auxerre.
Currently, in Group D, France leads with six points, while Azerbaijan sits in fourth place with one point. The group’s other match will see Iceland host Ukraine.
