"Tour d'Azerbaidjan cycling race planned for 2026 will be more comprehensive than similar tournaments organized in previous years".
Sahib Alekperov, the 1st Vice President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, said this to Report, Idman.biz reports.
He shared his thoughts on the race: "It will be more comprehensive than in previous years. An official application has already been sent to the International Cyclist's Union to include the five-stage tournament in the 2026 calendar plan. We assume that this will be accepted. Tour d'Azerbaidjan race is planned to pass through 20 cities and regions. First, we will start from Baku. Cyclists will also pass through the liberated territories and Khankendi. In the last stage, our finish line will be in Shusha".
The first stage of the Tour d’Azerbaijan, which is planned to be held in 2026, will be held on the Baku-Sumgait route, the second stage will be Baku-Shamakhi-Ismayilli, the third stage will be Gabala-Oguz-Sheki-Oguz-Gabala, the fourth stage will be Gabala-Aghdash-Mingachevir-Ganja, and the fifth stage will be Ganja-Tartar-Khankendi-Shusha. The aforementioned cycling race was previously organized 5 times between 2013 and 2017.
