From the memory of history: An unusual fight took place 51 years ago - VIDEO

On June 4, 1974, at the height of the women's rights movement and the tense confrontation between the sexes, an unusual fight took place at the Madison Square Garden arena.

Martial arts champion Joe Hess faced Beth Bussey, 22-year-old holder of the international women's karate title, Idman.biz reports.

This fight, broadcast as part of the ABC's Wide World of Sports program, was supposed to be a calm exchange of sparring techniques. However, Bussey changed the course of the fight with a sudden and decisive attack. Hess responded with an equally powerful blow, and Bussey fell to the ground shortly after.

Despite winning the fight, Hess faced public condemnation. His actions were perceived as a demonstration of aggressive dominance, and he was branded as a violent person, becoming a symbol of the controversial confrontation of the era of the struggle for equality.
