Konul Nurullayeva: "Ganja's reputation as a sports city will increase"

"The sports infrastructure of Ganja, our second largest city, allows to hold regional and international sports events."

Deputy Konul Nurullayeva told Idman.biz about this.

She commented on the declaration of the city of Ganja as the sports capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2025. According to Nurullayeva, Azerbaijan, as a sports country, has the experience of hosting many prestigious competitions at a high level: "At the same time, various sports events were held in Ganja. We remember the "V1 Challenge Ganja" sports car race, which was watched by more than 20,000 spectators a few years ago, as well as regional competitions in various sports. The III CIS Games will be the largest sports event hosted by the city. The opening of a new sports complex took place during President Ilham Aliyev's recent visit to Ganja. The Ganja Sports Palace, with an area of nearly 40,000 square meters, is considered a rare sports complex in the Caucasus as a whole. Basketball, volleyball, handball, mini-football and athletics games will be held here according to international standards. At the same time, the swimming pool in the Sports Palace also meets the standards of the International Swimming Federation. One of the aspects that increase the importance of Ganja Sports Palace is the creation of a modern hotel here. There are all kinds of facilities for the stay and recreation of 160 athletes here."

The deputy said that the creation of such huge sports facilities is important in terms of raising the reputation of Azerbaijan as a sports country, increasing the interest in sports among young people living in the regions and ensuring the popularization of sports: "On the eve of hosting the III CIS Games, the construction of this unique sports complex is very important. During the visit of our head of state, the foundation of a new stadium was laid in Ganja. The commissioning of the stadium with an area of about 10 hectares will create comprehensive conditions for holding both local and international competitions. I hope that in the coming year, the sports infrastructure of the city will be effectively used for further improvement, and at the same time for the organization of test tournaments."

According to her, the reputation of Ganja as a sports city will increase: "On the whole, there will be an opportunity to present Azerbaijani culture, history, and sports experience of our country in the image of Ganja."

It should be noted that Ganja was declared the sports capital at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS held in Minsk.
