An extraordinary Collegium meeting of the Ministry of Youth and Sports was held.
According to the information provided to Idman.biz by the MYS, Sports Ambassadors were selected for 2024 at the meeting chaired by Minister Farid Gayibov.
First, the candidates were presented. Each candidate gave information about himself and the activities he would perform if elected. Then, the following 5 people were chosen as Sports Ambassadors for 2024 from among 9 candidates by voting:
Farida Azizova - European Taekwondo champion among juniors, World Champion among youth, U-21 European Champion, bronze medalist of the European Championship among adults, double bronze medalist of the World Championship among adults;
Aliya Pashayeva - silver and bronze medalist of the European championships in rhythmic gymnastics, coach of the national team in rhythmic gymnastics, honored master of sports;
Ilgar Gurbanov - was a member of Istanbul's Fenerbahce, Lankaran's Khazar Lankaran football teams, Turkiye's youth national team and Azerbaijan's senior national team, and is currently a scout of the Azerbaijan national football team;
Orkhan Safarov - bronze medalist of the European Judo Championship under 23 years old, bronze and silver medalist of the World Championship among adults, silver medalist of the European Games, gold, silver and bronze medalist of the European Championship among adults, gold and silver medalist of the "Masters" competitions, respectively, Islam Winner of the Solidarity Games;
Khayyam Orujov - four-time European champion in national sports, two-time World Cup winner, six-time winner of the World Championship, silver and bronze medalist of the IV Islamic Solidarity Games, honored coach.
The collegium also reviewed the presentation of the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation and made a decision to award the honorary title of "Honorary Physical Culture and Sports Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan" to Azer Gadir oghlu Abiyev.
