Guliyev and the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mariana Vasileva met with athletes achieved high results at the 2023 World and European Championship, the 36th World Military Championship.

Idman.biz reports that at the meeting, the importance of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to the development of sports, the progress of various sports and training of our local athletes was emphasized, which increases the fame of Azerbaijan as a sports country.

It was stated that wrestling with ancient traditions and a well-established school occupies a special place in this field. With the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee, the activity of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation further stimulates the development of this sport and increases its popularity.

It was noted that 2023 was marked by the full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The success of our wrestlers in the world and European championships, the victories achieved in international arenas are doubly significant for our people and the sports community of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation was the sports federation that won the most medals in the world and European championships in 2023. This year, our national team became the world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling for the first time in history. The freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestlers won 2 gold medals in the adult World Championship and 5 gold medals in the European Championship.

2024 is of great importance as it is the year of the Olympics. Winning as many licenses as possible for the Olympic Games, organizing the European Olympic Qualification tournament on April 4-7 and the U-23 European Championship on May 20-26 in Baku at a high level, and winning at the Paris-2024 Olympics to be held in France in August are the main goals ahead. Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation announced that all necessary measures will be taken and wished success to wrestlers and coaches in the coming year.

AGF Secretary General Nasimi Musayev, AWF Executive Committee members Namig Abdullayev, Farid Mansurov, head coach of the Greco-Roman wrestling team Alexander Tarakanov and head coach of the national freestyle wrestling team Khetag Gazyumov spoke about the achievements.
In 2023, 72 medals, including 22 gold, 20 silver, and 30 bronze, were won at the European Championships, and 29 medals were won at the world championships, including 5 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze. In total, our wrestlers reached the podium 101 times (27 gold, 31 silver, 43 bronze) in the

European and World Championships.
11 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals were obtained at the 36th World Military Championship held in Baku from November 29 to December 2 this year, organized by the State Border Service. The Azerbaijan national team in freestyle wrestling took the 1st place in the team score, and our national teams in Greco-Roman and women's wrestling took the 2nd place.

In total, in 2023, our wrestlers won 267 medals (76 gold, 75 silver, 116 bronze) in international competitions.
Within the framework of the event, wrestlers, coaches, judges and other persons who participated in the 36th world championship of the military were awarded.
