“Qarabag,” whose European campaign is going well, has intensified efforts to strengthen its squad. Confirmed to play in the Europa League group stage and just one step away from the Champions League group stage, the Agdam club is searching for players for its midfield and attacking line.
Idman.biz, citing Futbolinfo.az, reports that the situation has become clearer following the away victory over Ferencvaros in the play-off.
The club management believes the Hungarians will not be able to overturn the result in Baku. As a result, those responsible have been instructed to speed up the search for players and increase financial terms for hesitant targets. Once a complete victory over Ferencvaros is confirmed, efforts to bring in new signings will intensify.
Head coach Gurban Gurbanov is looking for an attacking midfielder to increase rotation options. Similar to the Ferencvaros match, he plans to occasionally use Kady Borges on the right flank and wants a foreign player to provide competition for the Brazilian. Candidates have been identified, and negotiations are ongoing.
Qarabag’s main target is a central forward. The club has not given up hope of signing Andre Clovis. The Brazilian, currently at Portugal’s Academica, has not moved to another team yet. Since he now has a chance to play in the Champions League, he is expected to finally join the club after the Ferencvaros return leg, when a final offer will be made.
Olavio Juninho’s return to “Qarabag” is also possible. The forward, sold by the champions to Flamengo for €5 million, is unhappy not being included in the Brazilian squad. The club is preparing to loan him out, and the Champions League factor could make a return to “Qarabag” feasible.
Negotiations are ongoing with several other players, and everything depends on the team’s Champions League prospects. Once qualification for the group stage is secured, decisive steps in transfers will be taken. At least two signings are expected to be finalized before the transfer window closes.
