Ahead of the sixth-round match of the Champions League main stage between Qarabag and Ajax, Amsterdam academy graduate and current Karvan-Yevlakh defender Shakil Sno shared his expectations for the game, İdman.Biz reports.
The 29-year-old footballer said the match promises to be dynamic and entertaining.
"This will be a very interesting match. Both teams love attacking football, so there will be open spaces on the pitch and we will see an open game. The result could go either way," he told teleqraf.az.
Sno emphasized that Ajax—despite recent struggles—remains a club with a unique football identity.
"Ajax has always been known for its attractive football: possession, attacking and dominant play, even with a bit of arrogance. I spent 11 years at the club, and that influence is still visible in my game," the defender noted.
Assessing the strength of the teams, he admitted that the sides are evenly matched, though Ajax’s current form raises questions.
"Qarabag is a strong team; I've played against them several times and they have proven themselves in Europe. Ajax has great experience in continental tournaments, but they are not in their best form right now. If they play well, it will be difficult for Qarabag. I think the match will end in a draw," Sno predicted.
He also revealed that he will not be able to attend the match in person, despite receiving an invitation from Dutch television.
"I was invited to appear live at the stadium, but I cannot come due to my training. Of course, I will support Ajax," he said.
Sno added that neither club contacted him ahead of the match.
"Neither Ajax nor Qarabag reached out to me regarding the game. In our team we just joke about it: the guys support Qarabag, and I support Ajax," he shared.
Speaking about the coaches, Sno praised Ajax manager Fred Grim and expressed respect for Qarabag boss Gurban Gurbanov.
"I know Fred Grim well, we worked together and have an excellent relationship. I'm not personally acquainted with Gurban Gurbanov, but I've heard many positive things about him," the player added.
Evaluating the overall situation, Sno believes Qarabag has a slight advantage due to their points tally and home-field factor.
"Seven points and playing at home give Qarabag confidence. Ajax is going through a difficult period, but I believe they will fight until the end and try to take points from Baku," he concluded.
