“Shamakhi” plays its 700th match in Azerbaijan Premier League history

The 7th round of the Misli Premier League was a remarkable one for Shamakhi FC.

Idman.biz, citing the official website of the Professional Football League (PFL), reports that the club, which has previously competed under the names Khazar University, Inter, and Keshla, played its 700th match in the top division of the Azerbaijan championships.

Under the guidance of head coach Aykhan Abbasov, Shamakhi celebrated the anniversary with a 1–0 away victory over Gabala.

Over the course of these 700 matches, the team has recorded 295 wins, 197 draws, and 218 losses, scoring 869 goals and conceding 714.

The match was also the club’s 350th away game. Shamakhi secured its 122nd away victory, in addition to 98 draws and 130 defeats on rival grounds, with 402 goals scored and 434 conceded.

It is worth noting that the club’s first-ever match took place in the 1999/2000 season, when Khazar University lost 0–1 at home to Shafa on October 29, 1999. Their first away game was played against Shamkir on November 13, 1999, ending in a 0–6 defeat.
