Azerbaijan's junior fencers won a silver medal among 18 teams in the saber category in the International Tournament held in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Idman.biz reports that the team consisting of Abbas Huseynov, Rasul Aliyev, Timur Husnaddinov and Murad Muradov won the first match against Germany with a score of 45:28 and qualified for the strongest eight.
In the tournament, in which the national teams representing Bulgaria, Greece, and Great Britain also competed, Azerbaijan advanced to the finals by defeating the third team of Türkiye and the teams jointly represented by Georgia and France with scores of 45:44 and 45:38, respectively.
In the decisive match, the Azerbaijani fencers lost to Türkiye with a score of 30:45.
In the women's saber team competition, the first team of Azerbaijan consisting of Farah Abbasova, Tarana Mammadli, Valentina Zeynalova and Zuleykha Sultanli won the first match against the fifth team of Türkiye with a score of 45:21, but lost with the score of 44:45 in a tense match with the second team of the brother country in order to advance to the semi-finals.
In the team competition of female saber athletes, another team consisting of Leyla Ahmadova, Fatima Karimova, Jahan Sadikhova and Gulara Taghizade lost to the winner of the tournament in the first match with the score of 21:45.
