Rejection of Magnus Carlsen, Nijat Abbasov in the Challengers Tournament

Former World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has confirmed his refusal to participate in the Challengers Tournament in April.

Idman.biz reports that the Norwegian chess player, the winner of the World Cup and qualified for the competition, announced this on his page.

He thanked FIDE for the invitation, but reiterated that he did not intend to compete in the championship cycle. As a result of Carlsen's refusal, Nijat Abbasov, who finished 4th in the World Cup, will be given a ticket to the Challengers tournament.

He will compete against Ian Nepomniachtchi (FIDE), Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura (both USA), Rameshbabu Pragnanandha, Vidit Santosh Gudjarati, Dommaradju Gukesh (all three India) and Alireza Firuzdja (France).

It should be noted that the tournament will be held in Toronto, Canada.
