World Championship: Azizli, Mammadli, and Ganizade into finals

The World Championship for non-Olympic weight categories began today in Tirana, Albania.

According to Idman.biz, Greco-Roman wrestlers are competing on the opening day, with Azerbaijan represented in four weight categories.

Three-time world champion Eldaniz Azizli entered the competition in the 1/8 finals, where he achieved a dominant 8-0 victory over Albanian Bajram Sina. Azizli continued his success in the 1/4 finals, defeating China’s Haifeng Zhang 9-0. In the semifinals, he overcame Romanian Denis Florin Mihai with a 9-0 score. Azizli will face Iran’s Pouya Solatmarz in the final.

Nihad Mammadli began his journey from the first round, securing a 10-0 victory over Ildar Hafizov (USA) to advance to the 1/8 finals. He then defeated Bulgaria’s Muslim Amayev by pin and won his 1/4 final match against Belarus’ Hleb Makarenka 5-0. In the semifinals, Mammadli triumphed over Armenia’s Karen Aslanyan with a 6-1 score. Mammadli will compete against Yerzhet Zharlykashin in the final.

Ulvi Ganizade advanced from the 1/8 finals by defeating Georgian Otar Abuladze 5-1. He continued with a strong 9-0 win against Croatia’s Dominik Etlinger in the quarterfinals, followed by a 6-0 victory over China’s Ji Leng in the semifinals, earning a spot in the final. Ganizade will face Ibrahim Mahmoud Hassan (France) in the final.

Gurban Gurbanov began in the qualification round, where he defeated Albania’s Kevin Kupi with a score of 9-0 to advance to the 1/8 finals. However, he lost his next match to Hungarian Erik Szilvassy with a close score of 1-2.

The championship will conclude on October 31.
