Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has expressed his support for Gabriel Martinelli, reports İdman.Biz.
The Brazilian winger was left out of Arsenal's squad for the Community Shield against Manchester City (3-0) and their Premier League opener against Coventry (3-0).
"I am concerned about how Martinelli is being treated at the moment. He always gives 100 per cent. I'm not saying he is the greatest footballer in the world.
"But there have been important moments in Arsenal's history involving him. He has played some excellent games and scored important goals.
"And the way he is being treated now... I understand that the club wants him to leave and many people are saying, 'Yes, maybe it's time for him to move on.'
"But there are different ways of handling that process, and it should also work for the player himself.
"He is not in the squad, they are not talking to him, and he does not understand what is happening. He was not in the squad for the Community Shield either. He doesn't know what is going on, and he has one year left on his contract.
"If Arsenal had signed Vinicius, Martinelli could have said to himself: 'OK, they've brought in Vinicius and Tzolis, so I am probably third choice in this position.'
"But when you look at Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke playing on the other wing, you think: 'I can compete with both of them. I still have a lot to offer this team.'
"I just want to say that, in my opinion, Martinelli has done enough for this team and deserves to be treated with much more respect than he is being shown at the moment," Ian Wright said.
