As reported by İdman.Biz, the Argentine struck Philadelphia Union player Quinn Sullivan during the second half of the encounter. The incident is expected to be reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee.
Messi is reportedly most likely to receive a fine. However, under the regulations, the 39-year-old could also be handed a one-match suspension.
The Argentine forward scored in the same match, but his goal was not enough to secure victory for Inter Miami. The encounter ended in a 2-2 draw.
The result also extended Inter Miami's winless run in MLS to three matches.
