Elma Aveiro, the sister of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, has defended her brother against growing criticism over his recent actions with the national team.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Aveiro expressed her disappointment while speaking to journalists following a book presentation in Lisbon, attended by Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.
"It makes me very sad because, unfortunately, Portuguese people forget everything that has been achieved so far and now believe that things should be different.
"I honestly don't know what to say. It is extremely painful for me to see my brother going through all of this. He is one of the last people who deserves to be treated this way," Aveiro said.

Her comments come amid controversy surrounding the 41-year-old forward, who reportedly left Portugal's national team camp without authorization after missing the UEFA Nations League match against Norway, which Portugal won 2-1.
Former England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney had previously criticized Ronaldo over his decision to leave the squad.
The incident has sparked renewed debate about Ronaldo's relationship with the national team, with his sister insisting that the legendary forward's contributions to Portuguese football should not be forgotten.
