Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has revealed how the club handled Vinicius Junior's contract extension.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Mourinho said the key point was establishing whether the Brazilian winger wanted to remain at the club.
"The news was not a surprise. When I took charge of the club and they told me about his contract situation, the first thing I asked was: 'Does he want to stay or not?' And he wanted to stay.
"After that, it was a question of the numbers and his agents, but he wanted to stay. At that moment, I was completely calm," Mourinho was quoted as saying by Real Madrid's official website.
Vinicius extended his contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2032 at the beginning of August.
The 26-year-old has played for the Spanish giants since 2018, when he joined from Flamengo in a transfer worth €45 million.
Last season, Vinicius made 53 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 14 assists.
