Confederations could launch joint Nations League tournament

Football confederations could combine their Nations League competitions to create a new unified international tournament.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing The Guardian, the project is being considered as a way for the confederations to strengthen their position in relation to FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino.

Under the proposed format, the strongest European national teams would face the leading sides from North and Central America in League A.

The inaugural edition of the competition could be held in 2028, with the tournament then taking place every two years.

According to the plans, group-stage matches would be played during the international windows in September, October and November. The playoffs would follow in March, with the final stage scheduled for June.

If implemented, the project would significantly reshape the existing Nations League format by introducing regular competitive matches between leading national teams from different confederations.
