Olympics towards 17000: Azerbaijan on the threshold of 50 - ANALYSIS

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which will be held on July 26, will begin two days earlier - tomorrow.

However, since three Olympics did not take place, Paris 2024 is the jubilee - the 30th Games. In the history of the competition, which started in Athens in 1896, there were 16 thousand 781 medal winners. The 17,000th medal will go to someone in France.

So far, 5460 Olympic gold winners have been announced. 5429 silver and 5892 bronze medals were played at the Olympics.

49 of these awards are on the account of the Azerbaijani national team. The Azerbaijani athletes indeed won medals as part of the USSR team. However, the 7 Olympics that took place during the years of independence were 7 gold, 14 silver, and 28 bronze. It is interesting to note that the value of the medal doubles as it changes. Silver is twice as much as gold, and bronze is twice as much as silver. The first medal in Paris 2024 will be the 50th anniversary.

In general, members of 154 teams won medals in the previous 29 Olympics. 147 of them represented any country, 6 were united teams, and one was the Olympic Committee of Russia, which was not allowed to compete. Azerbaijan is ranked 63rd in the overall medal ranking. The list is headed by the United States. USSR is second, Great Britain is third.
