"In June, the joy of gymnastics spread all over our continent, even more than in other months! From European Championships over junior Worlds to mass participation events, gymnastics took the spotlight on many occasions."
Farid Gayibov, President of European Gymnastics, made this statement in the latest edition of the President’s Notes published on the official website, Idman.biz reports.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov also highlighted the key events that took place in June:
"After a hugely successful European Championships in Artistic Gymnastics in the German city of Leipzig, we immediately travelled to the Estonian capital Tallinn for the next European Championships: the 41st edition of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Europeans!
The Unibet Arena provided a fabulous setting for our gymnasts to display their impressive routines. The enthusiastic audience witnessed historic moments, entertained by both the participants and by our mascot Luigi, and gave it their all to show their appreciation. It’s such a pleasure to see so many countries represented on the carpet, in the finals, and on the podium.

For the very first time Estonia hosted a European Gymnastics event, a proud moment for all of us as we happily return to the Baltic region. A huge ‘Thank you’ to the Estonian Gymnastics Federation! You showed that also ‘smaller’ federations can tackle the challenges of hosting events at the highest level. Well done!
From 12 to 22 June, the Swiss Gymnastics Festival took place in Lausanne (SUI). One of the biggest and oldest gymnastics festivals worldwide, I was honoured to witness a part of this 77th edition! Started almost 200 years ago, in 1832, and now organised every 6 years, it’s the biggest sports event in Switzerland! With 65,000 participants and 300,000 visitors, it’s the best promotion of our sport possible: it shows the joy of practicing gymnastics, whether as a recreational or high level gymnast, it highlights the quality of the performances, it attracts worldwide guests. Congratulations to the Swiss Gymnastics Federation!
At the same time, the first of the 2025 Junior World Championships took place. It was the turn of the future stars of Rhythmic Gymnastics to shine in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. At the third edition already of this event, the host nation excelled once again, staying true to their world famous rhythmic reputation and showing that the next generation is as good as the many previous ones. There were medals too for Poland and Georgia in the individual competition while Ukraine and Italy made the group podium. The wide variety of countries making it into the finals, and winning medals, is a great way forward for the discipline. The future sure looks bright!
The European Gymnastics Executive Committee held its second meeting of the year in Lausanne. We discussed a lot of interesting topics, including the European Cup series, and we’re pleased to announce that one event in Rhythmic Gymnastics is already confirmed. It will take place again in Baku (AZE) the first weekend of May, for the third consecutive year! We aim to add more stops and more disciplines in the near future, as part of our Strategic Plan 2030. Another hot topic was the preparation for the Congress at the end of November in Prague (CZE). This edition is an electoral Congress and the list of candidates is out now. It’s an honour to see so many candidates, so many countries ready to give their time and expertise to contribute to our organisation. It’s a testament to the work we’ve been doing the last cycles to enhance our events, and the path we’ve taken with our newly developed Strategy. I wish good luck to all candidates, I’m sure that our member federations will choose professional people for the future of European Gymnastics.
While many European countries have started the summer holidays, the sports community shifts its attention to two major multi sports events taking place in July: the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) and the World University Games! Both showcase the best in gymnastics for wildly different target groups: EYOF provides junior artistic gymnasts with their first taste of a multi-sports event while the World University Games show that education and high-level sports performances go hand-in-hand. Good luck to all participants!"
