Bayer Leverkusen has officially named Erik ten Hag as the club’s new head coach, replacing Xabi Alonso, who recently departed to take over at Real Madrid.
The German Bundesliga side confirmed the appointment on Monday, announcing that the 55-year-old Dutchman has signed a contract running until 2027, Idman.biz reports.
Ten Hag arrives at Leverkusen following a difficult end to his tenure at Manchester United, where he was dismissed in October 2024 after a poor start to the season that included four losses in nine league matches. Despite the disappointing end, he led the Premier League side to two domestic cup titles during his two and a half years at the club.
Now returning to the sidelines, Ten Hag inherits a Leverkusen team that finished second in the Bundesliga and reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal, following a historic season under Alonso, who had guided the club to a league and cup double the previous year.
With high expectations and a talented squad, Ten Hag will aim to build on Alonso’s success and lead Leverkusen to new heights both domestically and in Europe.
