The clubs that have spent the most on defender transfers over the last five seasons have been revealed.
Idman.biz reports that English Premier League clubs dominate the top of the list.
The top five positions are occupied entirely by Premier League teams, with Chelsea leading the way in defensive spending:
Chelsea – €391.4 million (13 defenders)
Tottenham – €358.1 million (18 defenders)
Manchester City – €320.4 million (9 defenders)
Manchester United – €281.2 million (12 defenders)
Arsenal – €258.4 million (11 defenders)
Surprisingly, Real Madrid ranks just 236th globally, having spent only €5 million on defenders in this period.
This figure solely reflects the 2023 transfer of Fran García, while the signings of Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba came at no cost, as both joined the club as free agents.
This summer, Trent Alexander-Arnold is also expected to join Real Madrid as a free agent.
