Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has issued an apology to Arsenal and Eberechi Eze after the forward scored a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 4-1 north London derby win over Tottenham.
Idman.Biz reports that Carragher admitted he initially undervalued the summer transfer from Crystal Palace but now recognizes Eze’s potential to make a major impact for Mikel Arteta’s side in their Premier League title bid.
Eze, who nearly joined Spurs before moving to Arsenal, became just the fourth player to score three goals in a north London derby and took home the match ball. Carragher told Sky Sports that he had doubts about the signing, believing it was squad depth rather than a game-changing addition. “I’ve certainly undervalued the importance of that signing because he looks like he could make the real difference for Arsenal this season,” he said.
Arteta praised Eze’s performance, noting the midfielder could have scored four or five goals. Arsenal now shift focus to the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, where Harry Kane and the German side visit the Emirates in perfect form.
