Sergio Ramos in talks to extend Monterrey stay through 2026

Monterrey have reportedly opened formal negotiations with Sergio Ramos to extend his contract beyond December 2025, according to ESPN.

Idman.Biz eports that while no agreement has been finalized, both parties are keen to continue the partnership as Rayados enter a decisive stretch of the Apertura 2025.

Ramos, who arrived in February 2025, has quickly become the anchor of Monterrey’s defense and a key figure in the locker room. The 38-year-old has played 23 Liga MX matches, starting all of them, and has scored five goals with only one red card. His presence on and off the pitch has made contract renewal a priority for the club as it prepares for the 2026 project.

Sporting president José Antonio “Tato” Noriega confirmed the discussions but emphasized that the team’s competitive focus comes first, particularly with the Apertura quarterfinals against América approaching. Ramos has expressed comfort in Monterrey both professionally and personally, suggesting he is open to staying.

The length of the proposed extension and final terms are still under negotiation. If no agreement is reached, Ramos could become a free agent in January 2026, but both sides prefer to avoid that scenario, valuing his stability and leadership.
