Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick believes his team have the quality to win the Champions League, although he has warned that the road to the trophy will be long.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing UEFA, the German coach spoke about the Catalan club's ambitions ahead of their opening league-phase match against Feyenoord.
"Can the team win the Champions League? I think, ultimately, all the big clubs dream of that. We have the quality to win this trophy, but there is a long road ahead. We have many experienced players in the squad, and they all have a responsibility to win every competition," Flick said.
The Barcelona coach also praised Lamine Yamal, highlighting the young forward's ability to decide matches and his desire to continue improving.
"Yamal is capable of deciding matches on his own. At the same time, he likes to improve day by day. He enjoys playing and is enjoying even his new role as captain. That is important for him to reach his highest level," Flick explained.
Flick also expressed satisfaction with Anthony Gordon's performances, despite the forward's desire to contribute more goals and assists.
"As for Gordon, as a forward he wants to score, create chances and provide assists. That is also very important. The goals will come. I am very happy with how he performs both defensively and offensively," the coach added.
Barcelona begin their 2026/27 Champions League campaign against Feyenoord on September 9. The league phase consists of eight matches for each club, with the top eight teams advancing directly to the round of 16 and teams finishing ninth to 24th entering the knockout phase play-offs.
Barcelona are also among the opponents of Azerbaijani club Sabah in the Champions League league phase. The two teams will meet on November 25, 2026, at the Baku Olympic Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 21:45 Baku time.
