Belgian FA will not support Infantino in upcoming FIFA presidential election

The Royal Belgian Football Association has announced that it will not support incumbent president Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election.

İdman.Biz reports, citing the federation’s official website, that the decision is linked to two matters in which the Belgian governing body believes FIFA has failed to demonstrate sufficient transparency.

The first concerns the FIFA Forward Enterprise project. According to the association, there is currently insufficient information about the main reasons behind several important decisions and assessments related to the initiative.

The second issue involves the cancellation of United States forward Folarin Balogun’s red card ahead of the 2026 World Cup round-of-16 match against Belgium.

The Belgian federation stated that it had not received a clear explanation from FIFA regarding the reasons for overturning the suspension. It is also seeking clarification on how similar cases will be handled in the future.

The association’s position places questions of governance and decision-making transparency at the centre of its stance ahead of the presidential vote. FIFA’s Forward programme is intended to support football development through funding and assistance to member associations, making accountability over its projects an important issue for national federations.

Balogun’s red card was rescinded before the United States faced Belgium in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
