Azerbaijan launches regional cycling development project

A new project has been launched at the National Velodrome with the joint organization of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Science and Education, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Idman.biz, citing AZERTAC, reports that the project will provide specialized training courses for coaches working to develop cycling in regional areas.

The main goal of the courses is to popularize cycling in the regions, attract young people to the sport, and train qualified specialists. Participating coaches will receive both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The program will focus on internationally standard training methods, athlete coaching techniques, and safety regulations in cycling.

The organizers believe that such courses will give a new impetus to sports development in the regions and contribute significantly to the training of professional cyclists in the country.

Sahib Alakbarov, First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, emphasized the project’s importance for the future of cycling: “These trainings aim to support sports development in the regions and create conditions for preparing qualified coaches. Cycling has always been popular in Azerbaijan, contributing to physical health and productive leisure for young people. I am confident that the coaches participating in the courses will play a key role in involving hundreds of young people in sports and discovering new talents.”

He also noted that the federation continuously monitors the development of cycling in the regions and that such projects will be ongoing.

Hasan Hasani, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, highlighted the significance of cycling in young people’s lives: “Cycling is important not only for achieving success in competitions but also for promoting a healthy lifestyle. Developing this sport among schoolchildren and youth positively affects both their physical and mental health. The courses we are launching today will contribute to forming professional staff in the regions and increasing interest in sports among the new generation. The project will also positively impact the recognition of the regions.”

Elnur Mammadov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, spoke about the importance of cycling development and the training of new coaches, noting that such projects will significantly boost sports participation in the regions. All necessary conditions have been created for course participants.

The courses, which will run for 12 days with coaches from 10 districts, are being held at the National Velodrome.
