The Azerbaijani national team set a new record in the number of medals in the European Championship among boxers under 22 years of age.
Idman.biz reports that our team achieved this achievement in the Continental Championship held in Budva, Montenegro.
The team won 5 medals in the European Championship and made history for the first time. So far, our boxers have reached the podium 4 times in a similar competition. In 2012, our national team won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in Russia and 10 years later in Croatia. This time, 5 medals are a new record in the championship.
In this age group, Nijat Huseynov (51 kg) won the double European Champion title. Until then, in 2012, Elvin Isayev (60 kg), and in 2019, Mahammad Abdullayev (+91 kg) won the gold medal of the Continental Championship.
The U-22 European Championship was also marked by the fact that Azerbaijan won the first medal in the women's competition. Marjona Savriyeva (50 kg) was the 3rd in our team and wrote her name in our boxing history.
It should be noted that Nijat Huseynov (51 kg) won gold, Azrak Babirov (57 kg) won silver, Tural Sariyev (48 kg), Murad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) and Marjona Savriyeva (50 kg) won bronze medals.
