The European Boxing Championships for men and women have kicked off in Sofia, Bulgaria.
As reported by İdman.Biz, both members of the Azerbaijani national team who entered the ring on the opening day secured victories. The tournament has brought together 406 boxers from 43 countries.
Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) faced Montenegro’s Milos Poganovic in his opening bout. The Azerbaijani boxer produced a strong performance over three rounds and claimed a 4-1 decision (29-28, 30-27, 28-29, 30-27, 30-27).
Isgandarov will face Croatia’s Fabian Tomkic in the round of 16 on September 19.
Seyid Seyidov (85 kg) also successfully passed the round of 32, defeating Belgium’s Idris Leganesi by a 4-1 decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28).
Seyidov will next meet Spain’s Adrian Ricardo, who received a bye in the opening round, in the round of 16 on September 18.
The European Championships will conclude on September 25, when the tournament champions will be crowned.
