The traditional tournament among young people dedicated to the memory of the founder of Azerbaijani boxing, Abbas Aghalarov, has started.
Idman.biz reports that the opening ceremony of the competition was held before the fights.
The event started with the parade of the participating teams - Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia, as well as the "Royal" club of Lithuania.
After that, the adviser to the president of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation (ABF) Samir Huseynov greeted the guests in Baku: "Our goal is to contribute to the development of boxing. Next year, we will hold a series of events related to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation. At that time, many guests will come to Baku, and this will play an important role in the further development of boxing in our country. I am sure that the race will be memorable."
Dragolyub Radovic, the Serbian supervisor of the tournament, and Aliniyaz Mirzayev, the representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, wished success to the athletes who will perform.
Then the competition was declared open.
On the first day of the tournament, 14 fights in 5 weight classes were organized. In the meetings, 3 boxers of our national team qualified for the 1/4 finals.
It should be noted that there will be 15 matches on the second day of the competition where 97 boxers will compete. The fights will start at 15:00 at the Baku Boxing Center. The names of the winners will be announced on December 22.
