The opening ceremony of the national winter athletics championship was held under the organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation (AAF).
Idman.biz reports that AAF President Javid Gurbanov, Sevda Mirzayeva, Sector Head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, representatives of the federation, athletes and media representatives took part in the event.
Gurbanov said that 140 athletes representing Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Barda, Astara, Ismayilli and Khizni will compete in the championship: "We would like the competition to cover all parts of the country. Unfortunately, we are not able to achieve this yet. However, we are doing certain things in this direction. We believe that athletics will develop in all regions of Azerbaijan and we will be able to attract young people to this sport."
Mirzayeva reminded that 2024 is an important year. According to him, our athletes participate in various competitions in order to win a license for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games: "Our athletes have already started competing in a number of competitions in this direction. A lot of work is being done in the direction of the development of this sport in our country."
Then the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
After the official speeches, the tournament was declared open. The competition will last 2 days.
It should be noted that the program of the tournament includes 3 javelin, shot put, high jump, long jump, 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters, 3000 meters, 4x200 meters mixed relay races.
