Novak Djokovic will make his return to competitive tennis next month at the Shanghai Masters, marking his first tournament since his U.S. Open semi-final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz, tournament organizers announced.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that the Serbian star, a four-time winner of the Shanghai event, will make his 14th main-draw appearance in the tournament as he looks to end the season on a high note after falling short at the Grand Slams against world number one Alcaraz and number two Jannik Sinner.
“He's back. Our four-time champ, Djoker Nole, will return to Shanghai this year,” the tournament posted on social media.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner has struggled to overcome the emerging duo dominating men’s tennis in the past two seasons. However, Djokovic indicated in New York that best-of-three set matches, like those in Shanghai, offer him a better opportunity to compete at his highest level.
Last year, the 38-year-old reached the Shanghai final but lost to Sinner in straight sets. This year’s tournament is scheduled to run from October 1 to 12.
