Iga Swiatek lifted her maiden Cincinnati Open title on Monday after defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 in the final. The Polish third seed, a six-time Grand Slam champion, did not lose a set throughout the tournament and was ruthless in the final, converting all six of her break points.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that with the victory, Swiatek secured her 11th WTA 1000 crown and her first since the 2023 Italian Open, becoming the second most successful player in WTA 1000 history, behind only Serena Williams (23).
Paolini made a fast start, racing to a 3-0 lead, but Swiatek responded with a five-game surge to take control. After closing the first set on her second attempt, she carried her momentum into the second, saving two crucial break points at 4-3 before sealing the match with a powerful serve.
The win ensures Swiatek will climb back to world number two, locking the second seed for the upcoming U.S. Open, where singles action begins Sunday. She is also set to compete in the new mixed doubles event with Norway’s Casper Ruud. Earlier in Cincinnati, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz claimed the men’s crown after Jannik Sinner retired in the first set.
