Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul have both pulled out of the newly formatted U.S. Open mixed doubles event, creating significant changes across the 16-team field. The competition, offering $1 million to the winners, will take place August 19–20 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
World No. 11 Navarro, who has struggled on the U.S. hard court swing, opted to enter next week’s WTA 500 in Monterrey instead. Her withdrawal leaves Jannik Sinner without a partner. The world No. 1 must secure a replacement by Sunday afternoon or withdraw.
Paul, currently easing back from injury, chose to focus on singles preparation for Flushing Meadows. His absence reshapes the draw as Jessica Pegula, last year’s finalist, pairs with Britain’s Jack Draper after Draper’s original partner Paula Badosa also withdrew. Their combined ranking keeps them among the top eight duos with direct entry.
Meanwhile, Italians Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti have been added to the field as a direct entry. Two more wild-card teams are still to be named.
