Naomi Osaka continued her impressive return to the WTA Tour by dismantling Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 6-0 to reach the Canadian Open quarter-finals in Montreal.
Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that the match lasted just 49 minutes, with the four-time Grand Slam champion showing her trademark power and precision against the 35-year-old Latvian, who had upset defending champion Jessica Pegula in the previous round.
This marks a strong comeback for Osaka, 27, who is seeking her first title since returning from maternity leave in early 2024. Now ranked 49th in the world, she recently began working with Tomasz Wiktorowski, former coach of Iga Swiatek.
Elsewhere, American Madison Keys saved two match points to defeat Karolina Muchova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and will next face either Swiatek or Clara Tauson.
In the men’s draw, Australia’s Alex de Minaur beat Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in Toronto. De Minaur, the ninth seed, continues his strong form after winning the Washington Open. Meanwhile, fifth seed Holger Rune was upset by Alexei Popyrin.
