Sinner advances to Wimbledon quarter-finals after Dimitrov injury

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is through to the Wimbledon quarter-finals after Grigor Dimitrov retired with a pectoral injury during their fourth-round clash. The Bulgarian was leading 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 and dominating before collapsing after an ace, clutching his chest.

Idman.biz, citing The Guardian, reports that despite a medical timeout, Dimitrov returned in tears and was forced to withdraw.

“It’s not a win for me,” Sinner said. “It’s just sad. I hope he recovers soon.” Dimitrov had been playing superbly, hitting 36 winners and controlling the match.

Sinner had his own struggles, citing elbow pain after a fall early in the match. He plans an MRI to assess the injury. Next, he will face Ben Shelton, who defeated Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(1), 7-5.

Shelton, known for his explosive play, has now reached quarter-finals at all three major surfaces. The 21-year-old American remains a dangerous contender as he aims to end the 25-year drought since Pete Sampras last won Wimbledon for the U.S.
