Azerbaijani swimmer Ramil Velizade won a silver medal at the International University Sports Festival held in Yekaterinburg. According to the press service of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, in the tournament where swimmers from 37 countries participated, participant from Azerbaijan won the second place in the 200-meter butterfly, behind only Russian athlete Roman Shevlyakov, a student of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University named after Peter the Great. Dmitri Novichkov, a student of Russia’s Ural State University, took the third place in this method.

İdman.biz informs that according to the statement of Rashad Abdurrahmanov, the head coach of Azerbaijan’s national swimming team, the number of athletes from Russia participating in the tournament was too high according to the change in the rules of the International University Sports Festival held in Yekaterinburg this year:

"In the previous Universiades, only two swimmers from each country were allowed to participate in sports. This year, this rule was changed and it was decided that two athletes from each university would participate. This means that more athletes will participate in competitions in Russia. Therefore, the competition at the International University Sports Festival this year was very intense. Ramil Valizade was able to win a silver medal in such a difficult struggle. Our other swimmer Fatima Alkaremova qualified for the finals twice, but unfortunately she did not place in the top three," added the head coach of the national team.
