Azerbaijani mountaineer Elmira Aslanova has reached the summit of Puncak Jaya (Carstensz Pyramid, 4,884 m) in Indonesia.
According to Idman.biz, the climb began on the morning of October 21 and lasted nearly seven hours.
Puncak Jaya, the highest point in Oceania, is composed of limestone cliffs and features technically demanding terrain. The peak is considered one of the most complex routes, accessible only by helicopter as the footpath is closed. Tropical climate, constant rainfall, and slippery rocks present additional challenges for climbers.
