Nani denied permission to play at Minifootball World Cup in Baku

Former Portugal international Luís Nani has been denied permission to participate in the upcoming Minifootball World Cup in Baku with his national team.

According to Idman.biz, Orkhan Huseynov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation, confirmed the news to AZERTAC.

Huseynov explained that the 38-year-old veteran midfielder had submitted a request to the World Minifootball Federation:

“An online meeting was held between the parties. Due to the player limit for professionals set in minifootball, Nani was not granted permission to participate in the World Cup. However, it was stated that he could join the national squad for the upcoming European Championship.”

Huseynov also noted that the international body is looking to boost the global popularity of minifootball by involving well-known names such as former Slovakia captain Marek Hamšík and Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Džeko, who currently plays for Fenerbahce.
