- After 40 years, you returned to Baku, where you were born and grew up. What do you feel?
- First of all, I would like to thank the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation for inviting me to the 100th anniversary. This anniversary is not only the history of athletics, but the history of a country. The fact that I was invited is a manifestation of the value that is given to me. I missed this city. I haven't been in Baku for about 40 years. Thanks to the Federation's invitation, I returned to my hometown, where I was born, grew up and studied. During this period, the city has changed a lot for the positive. We were staying opposite the government house. It was early morning when I got here. It was still dark. But I could not sleep. I went to see the classical gymnasium number 160, where I was born and studied. As a child, I left home and went to school again. After dawn, I saw the city. Baku has become incredibly beautiful. I could not have imagined that there would be so many changes. I have never seen people close to my heart like in Azerbaijan.
- How was the event related to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation?
- The evening's event was great. It was a very emotional meeting. It was nice to meet people I haven't seen for a long time.
- Did you talk to the federation officials during the event? Did you give advice on what is needed for the development of athletics in Azerbaijan?
- The new office and base of the federation was inaugurated yesterday. There is a sports field, a jogging track. To be honest, I follow what is happening in Azerbaijani athletics on social networks every day. I pay attention to the posts shared by the Athletics Federation and the results of the athletes. Yesterday I witnessed this with my own eyes. Development is underway. The necessary base is available. It seems to me that soon there will be strong athletes. We will see medals at the World Championship and Olympic Games. I personally believe that.
- What are you doing now?
- I have completely distanced myself from sports. Okay, I'm in a different job. I deal more with plants, their design and care. But of course, I feel proud when the athletes of my native country have successful results.
- What are your wishes for Azerbaijani athletics?
- I want to see Azerbaijani athletes celebrating their victory with tricolor flags and winning medals at the Summer Olympic Games.
