Ziya Babashov: "The judges gave me a penalty point and..."

Babashov explained what was missing on the way to gold

"The race was at a good level. My competitors were world-class athletes."

Ziya Babashov (63 kg), Greco-Roman wrestler of the Azerbaijan national team, told Idman.biz.

The wrestler, who won a silver medal at the "Yaşar Doğu & Vehbi Emre" tournament in Antalya, Turkiye, evaluated his performance. Babashov, who lost to Russian Jambolat Lokyayev in the final, explained what was missing on the way to gold: "I analyzed my opponent well in the decisive match. But I made a small mistake and the judges gave me a penalty point. The score was 3:3, so I lost to the Russian athlete. This is my first international tournament among seniors. That's why there was excitement. But this excitement did not play a role in my defeat."

He said that he will compensate for this in the European Championship in the future: "The competition was a good preparation for the U-23 European Championship to be held in our country. My main goal is to successfully participate in Baku, fly our flag and sing our anthem."

It should be noted that Tural Mehtiyev (55 kg) also won a bronze medal on the first day of the competition.
