The U-20 World Wrestling Championships are continuing in Bratislava, Slovakia.
As reported by İdman.Biz, six Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers will take to the mat today in different weight categories.
In the repechage round, Bashir Verdiyev will face Kazakhstan’s Yeraly Askerbek in the 65 kg division, while Elcan Ismayilzada will meet Turkey’s Yasin Uzun at 79 kg.
In the qualification round, Haji Karimov will compete against India’s Sumit Kumar Laxman Baraskar in the 70 kg category. At 74 kg, Ismayil Rahimli will take on Uzbekistan’s Farrukhbek Jumanazarov.
In the round of 16, Farhad Suleymanli will face Hungary’s Robert Balint Erdelyi in the 97 kg division, while Yusif Dursunov will compete against Japan’s Hosei Fujita at 125 kg.
Azerbaijan has already won seven medals at the championships — one gold, three silver and three bronze.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, Aykhan Javadov became world champion in the 60 kg category. Javidan Nehmatov won silver at 77 kg, while Emin Javadli (55 kg), Tural Ahmadov (63 kg) and Elmin Aliyev (82 kg) claimed bronze medals.
In women’s wrestling, Gunay Gurbanova won silver at 57 kg and Ruzanna Mammadova finished second at 59 kg.
The U-20 World Wrestling Championships in Bratislava will continue until August 23.
