Aleksander Ceferin will not run for UEFA presidency in 2027

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin will not run for re-election in 2027.

Idman.biz reports that he announced this at a press conference held in France.

According to Ceferin, he does not plan to run for office after the end of his term of office in 2027. The 56-year-old Slovenian functionary attributed this to his desire to spend time with his family: " “I decided six months ago that I would not run anymore. The reason is that after some time every organization needs fresh blood, but mainly because I was away from my family for seven years now.

“I intentionally didn’t want to disclose my thoughts before, because firstly, I wanted to see the real face of some people and I saw it. I have a beautiful life in football, I have a beautiful life outside of football as well. The ancient Romans said: Whatever you do, do it wisely. We should all work that direction, then life would be much easier."

It should be noted that Ceferin, who became the UEFA president in 2016, previously voted for the changes in the UEFA Statute allowing for a fourth term in the presidency.
