For a long time, we have been doing everything possible to host world and European championships in Azerbaijan. We had also addressed the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) for this purpose. Through discussions with them, we opened doors for new tournaments.
These words were spoken by Gunel Badalova, Secretary-General of the Winter Sports Federation, in an interview with AZERTAC regarding Azerbaijan being awarded the rights to host the 2027 World Ski Mountaineering Championship, Idman.biz reports.
The federation official noted that this is an exciting development: “The competition will be held for both youth and adults. In the World Championship, races will be held in sprint, vertical, individual, team, and mixed relay categories. We have achieved significant success in a short period. Over the next two years, we will be hosting series races, the World Cup, European Championships, and World Championships. I believe this is not only the federation’s success but the success of all of Azerbaijan. We will make every effort to represent our country appropriately, both in terms of organization and other matters.”
It should be noted that the 2027 World Championship is planned to be held from February 28 to March 7 at the Shahdag Tourism Center. Additionally, the European Ski Mountaineering Championship and World Cup races will be held in 2026.
The European Championship is scheduled for March 4-8, 2026, and the World Cup will take place from March 6-8, 2026.
