For the first time, the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan championship among junior taekwondo players was held.
Idman.biz reports that the event was organized at the Sports and Health Club of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
President of World Taekwondo Choue Chung-won, President of Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation Kamaladdin Heydarov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mariana Vasileva, Vice President of National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Azerbaijan Lee Eun-Yong attended in the ceremony.
At the event, the National Anthem was first played, and then the dear memory of the martyrs who died for the success of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute's silence. Then the teams participating in the competition were presented.
Choue Chung-won, president of the World Taekwondo, who opened the ceremony with his inauguration speech, wished success to the competition participants: "I thank Azerbaijan for the organization. You did it well. Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in the world. World Taekwondo promotes the spread of this sport, especially among children and young people, and does many things in this direction. The World Taekwondo Championship will be held in February next year. The winners of this competition will have the right to participate in the championship next year."
President of the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation Kamaladdin Heydarov said that Azerbaijan is known as a sports country all over the world: "Sports and sports development are given special importance in our country. Also, taekwondo sports is developing specially in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan championship among juniors, which was held for the first time, gives reason to say that taekwondo is already a favorite sport among children. I hope that our athletes participating here today will compete in big arenas in the future."
Korean Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Lee Eun-Yong welcomed the fact that the competition was held for the first time in Azerbaijan as a positive factor. He noted that this will contribute to the development of taekwondo in the country.
After the official speeches, the ceremony continued with the artistic part. Later, the tournament was declared open.
It should be noted that 446 taekwondo players in 20 weight classes participated in the Azerbaijan Championship.
