An open swimming tournament was held in Gusar Olympic Sports Complex within the framework of Guba - Sports Capital 2024 and on the occasion of February 2 - Azerbaijan Youth Day.
Idman.biz reports that two teams of Gusar, Guba, Baku's Shagan and "Royal Club", Mingechevir, as well as the representative of Ukraine participated in the competition organized for the second year in a row.
Rabitabank and Pioneer Chain of Stores acted as sponsors of the tournament, which was jointly organized by Guba-Khachmaz Regional Youth and Sports Department and Gusar Olympic Sports Complex.
At the opening ceremony, Azer Badamov, deputy of the Milli Majlis from Gusar district, Mustafa Nuhbalayev, deputy head of the Guba-Khachmaz Regional Youth and Sports Department, Elshan Mammadov, director of the Gusar Olympic Sports Complex, Emil Amirmatov, head of the youth and sports sector in Gusar district, head of the Guba and Gusar district executive authorities attended the opening ceremony. employees Anar Mammadov and Jeyhun Hajiyev participated.
In the official part, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played first, and the dear memory of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Director of Gusar Olympic Sports Complex Elshan Mammadov, who opened the event, greeted the participants and wished them success. He noted that such a competition is of special importance in terms of the development of swimming in the remote northern region during the winter months. In this regard, Mammadov expressed his gratitude to all participants.
Deputy Azer Badamov emphasized that the development of sports is the basis of state policy. According to him, currently, Azerbaijan has gained a name as a country of athletes. This is due to the importance given to sports by the head of state and president of the National Olympic Committee, Ilham Aliyev.
Nuhbalayev, Mammadov, and Hajiyev also wished success to the participants of the competition on behalf of the state institutions they represent.
In the artistic part, the performance of Gusar's "Lezginka" dance group was met with great interest.
Then, the fight started. 11 sets of medals were won in the boys' and girls' 50-meter freestyle swimming competition in different age groups. Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded to the winners of the first 3 places, as well as precious gifts from the sponsor Rabitabank to the winning swimmers.
Gusar-1, which was ahead of all teams in terms of medals and number of medals, was awarded a trophy by the other sponsor "Pioneer" Store Network. Mustafa Nuhbalayev, Elshan Mammadov, and Anar Mammadov presented the cup to the coach of the team, Marina Murtuzayeva.
