International President Cup 2025 Regatta kicks off in Azerbaijan

The International President Cup 2025 Regatta, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth, officially begins today.

The opening ceremony and 200-meter races will take place in the picturesque town of Sugovushan, located in the Karabakh region, Idman.biz reports, citing AZERTAC.

Athletes from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, will compete.

The regatta will continue on May 1–2 at the Kur Olympic Sports Training Center in Mingachevir, featuring events in kayak, canoe, and academic rowing across various distances.

The closing ceremony will be held on May 2 in front of the training center, where winners will be awarded and trophies presented. The event will conclude with a cultural program, featuring dance shows, musical performances, and a fireworks display, creating a festive atmosphere.

This marks the third consecutive year that the President’s Cup has been included in the official calendar of the European Canoe Association (ECA).
